Earlier this year, Rugby News sat down with World Cup winning Wallabies halfback George Gregan and spoke about what it takes to win the William Webb Ellis Cup.

“History shows that experience counts at the World Cup, so you want guys that have World Cup experience,” he said.

“It’s a different animal the World Cup; it’s not like any other competition that you’ll play.”

So then what do you do when your country hasn’t qualified for a World Cup since 2003?

You pick an entire squad of debutants.

And that’s exactly what Australia’s Pool A rivals Uruguay have done.

Los Teros’ coach Pablo Lemoine has named 25 domestic based players in his 31-man squad, with expats Felipe Berchesi (Carcassonne, France Pro2), Agustin Ormaechea (Stade Montois, Pro2, France), Mario Sagario (Massy, France Pro2),  Gaston Mieres (Valpollicella, Serie A, Italy) and Alejo Corral (SIC, Argentina) filling the final five places.

The Wallabies face Uruguay on the 27th of September in Birmingham.
