RWC 2019: Young Wallabies may get two bites of World Cup cherry
Despite falling short against New Zealand in the final of the 2015 World Cup, Australia may be in a better position to to challenge for the World Cup in four years time at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
23 of the 33 players used by Michael Cheika so far in this World Cup (Carter and Hanson added as injury replacements), will be just 31 years old or younger ahead of the 2019 tournament and barring injury, should be available to play.
The following Wallabies will likely still be in the mix (age in 2019 in brackets):
FORWARDS (12): Carter (30), Douglas (30), Hanson (31), Hooper (27), McCalman (31), McMahon (25), Pocock (31), Simmons (30), Sio (27), Skelton (27), Slipper (30), Smith (30)
BACKS (11): Beale (30), Cooper (31), Folau (30), Foley (30), Genia (31), Horne (30), Kurindrani (28), Phipps (30), Speight (31), Tomane (29), Toomua (29)
Now while all those players may not be around in 2019, Australia should still take a fairly experienced squad to the World Cup. Here’s what the Wallabies side could look like in four years time using the players from the 2015 squad.
