Southern Districts star signs with Welsh Pro 12 club Scarlets

Southern Districts star Paul Asquith will join Welsh Pro 12 club Scarlets in the coming weeks and miss the remainder of the Shute Shield season. The former Australian Sevens and Melbourne Rebels utility back returned to Forshaw Park this season and was a standout in Souths 43-18 win over Eastwood  on Saturday. Coach Matt Barr said he was thrilled for Asquith, but admitted the loss of the versatile back will hurt Souths in their run towards the finals. "It's great news for Paul, we all know how talented he is and we've been lucky to have him for most of this season," Barr said. "In saying that, it's disappointing that we won't have him for the remainder of the season because we saw how good he is again on Saturday." The sixth placed Rebels produced their best performance of the season to beat second placed Eastwood in convincing fashion on Saturday and while Asquith's departure will certainly hurt the Rebels' premiership hopes, centre Denny Godinet is expected to return
