NSW Schools: Inter-Association Trials Week 2 Wrap-Up
NSW Schoolboy rugby fans got a better indication into their side’s prospects this year following the second round of inter-association trials played on a cool, windy day in Sydney.
At Queens Park, Waverley hosted an electric St Augustine’s side who looked to attack from the opening whistle.
While star back Albert Hopoate missed the clash, Auggies threw the ball from side to side and opened the scoring with a long range try.
The big, structured Waverley forward pack began to gain ascendancy soon after and marched their way up the field repeatedly in the first half.
No.8 Luca Moretti crossed for two tries in his first match of the year, before centre Lathan Hutchinson-Walters latched on to a grubber and scored under the posts to give Waverley a 26-12 half time lead.
The Waverley forwards took control in the second half and the home side jumped out to a 25 point lead. Hutchison-Walters scored his second try with an impressive individual effort before the visitors scored two late tries to add some respectability to the 47-36 scoreline.
A week after giving Scots a run for their money in Bathurst, Stannies caused another surprise result with an upset 17-15 win over Knox at Wahroonga.
Elsewhere, Kings beat Riverview 32-7 and Joeys, Scots, Barker and Trinity all recorded big wins.
