Easts came into the game with two successive wins under their belts but the Marlins, having conceded 84pts in their last two games, came out with a point to prove and simply smashed Easts at the breakdown, constructed wave upon wave of destructive phase play and took their opportunities to plunder five tries and a bonus point. Both sides put together some entertaining, attacking rugby and while the tackle contest was simply brutal at times, it was always a launch pad to get some width on the ball and go through the hands.
