Waverley & Barker go top of CAS ladder, Knox bounce back

Waverley and Barker both claimed back to back CAS victories to move clear of their rivals on the competition ladder, while Knox bounced back after a disappointing opening round loss to keep their title hopes alive in round two.

A hat trick to Waverley’s Rohan Schocher and a double to lock Fritz Jahnke-Tavana proved the difference in the Eastern Suburbs derby as Waverley claimed a 39-17 victory over neighbours Cranbrook.

Cranbrook matched Waverley’s physicality in the first half and trailed by just five points, but couldn’t go with the defending premiers in the fifteen minutes after the half time break.

Ethan Flanagan scored twice for Cranbrook, but that wasn’t enough to avoid a second loss of the season.

At Summer Hill, Knox bounced back from a disappointing opening round performance to beat Trinity 66-36 in a high scoring affair.

The visitors led 24-14 at half time and controlled proceedings for most of the match, but leaked 30 plus points for the second straight week in a worrying sign for coach Cam Blades.

Barker also continued their strong start to the season with a 69-8 victory over a brave Aloys outfit.

Fullback Hamish McDonald and centre Eli Sagala both scored doubles as Barker ran in nine tries to claim top spot on the CAS ladder on points difference.
