Warringah edge out Randwick to claim Kiama 7s, as Shoalhaven flies flag for country sides
Warringah defeated Randwick 19-14 in the final of the Men’s Division at the Kiama 7s on Saturday to claim the club’s second Sevens tournament title in three weeks.
Warringah claimed the Mick ‘Whale’ Curry Cup up in Newcastle earlier this month and repeated their efforts on the south coast on Saturday.
The Rats dominated the pool stage, defeating Southern Lions, Manly and Western Sydney by big margins, before defeating West Harbour 29-10 to book a spot in the final.
Randwick played their way to the final match of the afternoon following a 27 point victory over an impressive Shoalhaven side, who outperformed several Shute Shield clubs to book a spot in the knockout rounds.
Shoalhaven then defeated West Harbour 19-15 in the Plate final to claim third spot.
In the Women’s division, Burraneer defeated UTS Gordon 25-14 to claim the division one final, while Randwick defeated Canberra side Uni-Norths Owls in the division two decider.
Earlier in the afternoon, The Lakes defeated Albury in the final of the Men’s Country Cup.
