Warringah beat Manly to win Hamilton 7s ahead of Rat Park return
Warringah scored 19 unanswered points in the second half of the Mick”Whale” Curry Memorial Sevens final to claim the Premier Men’s title following a 24-10 victory over Manly.
Manly opened the scoring with a try to Yool Yool inside the first minute of the decider and led 10-5 at half time.
But the Rats scored a long range try from the kick off in the second stanza and dominated the final seven minutes. Strong defence led to a turnover and a try in the corner to hand the Rats a 17-10 lead, before a chip and chase try in the final minute sealed the result.
In the Women’s division, UTS Gordon upset reigning premiers Burraneer in their opening match and went on to dominate the division, beating Sydney Uni 38-7 in the final.
UTS Gordon also claimed the Colts division after scoring in golden point extra time to beat Eastwood 19-14.
The Country Men’s final was won by Hornsby, who defeated Newport 14-5 in a tight affair.
Many teams will travel to Sydney’s Northern Beaches to compete in next Saturday’s Sevens By The Sea tournament to be held at Rat Park. The finals of the tournament will be held shortly before the NSW Waratahs trial match against Manly and Warringah’s Shute Shield sides.
The Sevens circuit then heads down the NSW South Coast for the 52nd Annual Kiama Sevens on the final Saturday in February.
