WARATAHS forward Angus Scott-Young has spoken for the first time since his controversial departure from the Two Blues after returning to the field with rivals Eastwood on Saturday.

The powerful backrower came off the bench for the final 22 minutes in the Woodies 38-17 loss to Warringah at Narrabeen after one training session with his new team on Thursday night.

Eastwood pulled another rabbit from their hat with a 2025 South Sydney NRL player also debuting on Saturday.

Scott-Young exited the Two Blues after two games, which left the Western Sydney club far from impressed and him copping plenty of flak.

“People are entitled to their opinion; that is completely fine,” he told Rugby News after his Eastwood debut.

“Ultimately I was just trying to do what was best for my rugby career, and there was a scholarship opportunity and a few other things that went into the decision.

“I’m not going to talk about it right now, I’ve just come off the field, and I am pretty exhausted.

“I’m just happy to be back playing rugby.”

INTO THE WOODS

A PHONE call from the Waratahs to Eastwood late last week saw Scott-Young link up with the club.

“It was a quick turnaround, straight to training, chatted to Anthony Griffin the coach and pretty much just joined the crew then,” Scott-Young told Rugby News after the game. 

There were suggestions he may have linked up with Sydney University as he looked to continue his studies, but that was knocked on the head.       

“It was already put in the media that I tried to apply for a scholarship for my master’s at Uni, but unfortunately that didn’t happen,” Scott-Young said.

“Then I had some conversations with the Tahs and the general manager of the Shute Shield, and it was decided this was a good club.

“And I’ve really enjoyed it. I joined them on Thursday, and they are a great group of lads. They are really tight-knit, which is awesome.”

Scott-Young said that during the month he was not playing, he was doing a lot of training with the Waratahs while managing a hamstring injury.

“I’m back now, which is awesome,” he said.

“I’m sure we’ll go well the next few weeks, we’ve got some tough fixtures coming up.

“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and actually learn some plays next week.”

THE BIG CALL

COACH Griffin explained the circumstances of Scott-Young’s late arrival at the Woodies.

“The Waratahs rang us on Thursday night; that’s all I knew. They said they needed a place for him to play,” Griffin said.

His arrival is a boost for Eastwood as they look to lock in their top six spot.

Scott-Young had limited minutes against the Rats due to his hamstring.

Griffin said he should be right to go this Saturday against competition leaders Easts at TG Millner Field.    

A WAYNE BENNETT RECRUIT

FORMER Rabbitoh Fletcher Myers also turned up at Eastwood training on Thursday and played in second grade against the Rats.

The powerfully built 23-year-old outside back played eight NRL games for Souths under Wayne Bennett last season.

But after a series of injuries, he lost his passion for the game.

 A few mates who had connections with Eastwood convinced him to have a run.

“That was my first game of rugby for five or six years,” Myers said.

But he demonstrated he can make an impact while he comes to grips with the intricacies of the game.

“I enjoyed it, it was good fun,” he said.

Griffin said Myers was obviously someone the club can work with.

 “He seems like a really good young kid,” Griffin said. “We’ll just see how he goes.

“The more he plays, the better he’ll get.”
