Brumbies Media Release –

The Brumbies have signed sevens specialist Lausii Taliauli to a one-year deal after the giant outside back arrived in Canberra late last week.

A tall, lean, athletic player who will rival Tevita Kuridrani as the club’s biggest outside back, Taliauli has enjoyed a varied career to this point having now held fulltime contract positions with NRL club, the Gold Coast Titans, the Australian Sevens and the Brumbies.

Taliauli was first introduced to Canberra’s rugby fraternity in 2014 when he was temporarily released from the Australian Sevens to feature for the UC Vikings in the NRC. He immediately made an impact and was quickly snapped up by the Brumbies for the 2015 season.

For a big player, Taliauli has quick feet and a wicked step. And although prior to the UC Vikings stint his last experience with the 15-man game was at the Southport School in 2010, Taliauli said the Brumbies was a natural fit for him moving forward.

“Looking at the Vikings line up during the NRC it was really exciting for me as a young guy to be given a chance there,” Taliauli said.

“Running around with guys like Jesse Mogg and Robbie Coleman taught me plenty about the standards expected at the Brumbies and it’s because of this that I can see my game improving while I’m in Canberra.

“There are quality players in every position right across the Brumbies backline, but that sort of competition brings out the best in me and I’m looking forward to ripping into pre-season over the next month or so.”

From Queensland Schools in 2010, Taliauli was picked up by the Titans and played in their Toyota Cup sides in 2011 and 2012. The following two seasons he spent with the Australian Sevens before being offered a sabbatical spot with the UC Vikings midway through the NRC.

Taliauli competed in two sevens tournaments for Australia in Glasgow and London scoring three tries along the way.
