Star studded Gallopers run rampant in the wet to continue unbeaten start

GPS defied wet conditions in Round 4 to showcase their full array of attack, the Gallopers running in five tries to defeat Sunnybank 34-11 and remain undefeated in 2021.
In his return to the Hospital Cup, Fijian flyer Emori Waqavulagi scored a double out wide, while Wallaby and Melbourne Rebel Dane Haylett-Petty had some nice touches in a second-half cameo as he made his first appearance on a rugby field since a string of concussions.
Sunnybank head coach Sione Fukofuka praised the performance of Jeeps, with the side keeping their undefeated record along with the University of Queensland.
“Jeeps are a strong team who were able to capitalise on our errors and create opportunities to score points,” Fukofuka said.
“Their outside backs are electric, and we gave them too much space at times.
“Our set piece was poor and under pressure from a strong Jeep’s pack we lacked accuracy.”
The loss wasn’t without positives for the Dragons, who again showed the grit and determination which keeps them as one of the competition’s most competitive outfits.
“I was impressed that we kept fighting and although inaccurate we played for the 80mins,” Fukofuka said.
“We created opportunities but lacked the finishing ability from round one, which was both pleasing but also frustrating.
“We weren’t able to create the continuity and possession-based pressure to ask questions of Jeeps defence and that really hurt us.”
Jeeps travel down the M1 to face Bond University next week in what shapes as a cracking contest between two competition heavyweights, while Sunnybank will be out to claim their second win of the season when they host Uni.
Elsewhere in Round 4, a late Carter Gordon penalty sealed a dramatic win for Wests over Norths, with Brothers claiming a narrow victory over Souths at Chipsy Wood Oval.
The Brethren host Norths in Round 5, as Wests travel to Tigerland to take on the reigning premiers.
