Shute Shield: The Mighty Quinn gets the nod to control big premiership decider
By MARK CASHMAN
James Quinn will referee the 2020 Shute Shield grand final between Gordon and Eastwood at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.
Quinn got the nod for the biggest game of the Sydney premiership season from Amy Perrett and Matt Kellahan who will run the line on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.
Perrett controlled the extra-time thriller between Northern Suburbs and Eastwood on Sunday, while Kellahan did the honours in the semi-final between Gordon and Eastern Suburbs on Saturday.
Quinn, who works as a boarding supervisor at St Joseph’s College at Hunters Hill, controlled the Easts v Eastwood preliminary final in the first week of the finals.
This is the second year in a row that Quinn has refereed a Shute Shield decider after being the man with the whistle in last year’s grand final between Sydney Uni and Warringah at Bankwest Stadium.
He has been controlling first grade games in the Shute Shield since 2017 and has done National Rugby Championship fixtures since 2018.
Quinn has also run the line in Super Rugby AU games this year.
