The Intrust Super Shute Shield will feature on the international rugby stage next month, following today’s announcement that the final of the Sydney Club 7’s will be played at a packed Allianz Stadium on Saturday afternoon at the inaugural Sydney 7’s tournament.

Eastern Suburbs, Eastwood, Gordon, Manly, Northern Suburbs, Parramatta, Randwick and West Harbour will all feature in the tournament at Moore Park’s Kippax Oval, with the decider to be played in front of upwards of 45,000 fans on the main field.

Rugby News understands all Shute Shield clubs were invited to participate in the NSW Rugby organised event, with $10,000 prize money up for grabs.

Randwick assistant coach Morgan Turinui was quick to throw his support behind the tournament.

“It really is a great opportunity for the club to get off to a great start in 2016 and we are taking the challenge on accordingly,” he said.

“Sevens is an exciting format of our game and the fact we get to take the great Shute Shield rivalries to an International event is something the club is looking forward to.”

The tournament will not only showcase some of the Shute Shield’s best known players, but it will also give a handful of up and coming stars an opportunity to make a name for themselves.

Parramatta player Sam Hayward said he expected a number of Two Blues to impress at the tournament.

“I can’t think of a better way for the Club to show our diverse range of skills then by proving it in the Sydney Club 7s.”

“Each competing club has an amazing array of players, which will only make the challenge more exciting for our club to prove ourselves on a big stage.”

The Australian Rugby Union today also announced that the Australian Women’s Sevens side would play a three-match exhibition series against Ireland on the Sunday of the Sydney Sevens, with the final of the Bondi 10’s tournament also to be played on the main field throughout the weekend.
