Shute Shield: Round 9 Team News and Analysis

Norths and Manly will play under the big lights of Allianz Stadium on Friday evening before the Waratahs v Reds clash. 

Elsewhere, Sydney Uni and Easts meet on Ladies Day at Camperdown, Randwick play Western Sydney, Warringah host Gordon, Southern Districts take on Eastwood and West Harbour play Hunter. 

Northern Suburbs v Manly

Norths were forced to split the points in a 28-all draw against Warringah at North Sydney Oval but welcome back some troops for Friday nights match at Allianz Stadium. 

The Shoremen welcome back props George Thornton and Michael Scott after both played with the Waratahs last weekend, while Boston Kerapa is back in the starting XV at lock. 

Manly have made just one change to the side that beat Randwick at Manly Oval last week, with Ruan Du Plooy to start at No.9.

Sydney Uni v Eastern Suburbs 

19-year old Waratahs Academy forward Eamon Doyle will make his Shute Shield run-on debut for Sydney Uni at lock against Easts on Ladies Day. Elsewhere, Isi Naisarani hasn’t been named, with Sam Allsopp returning to the Students’ backrow. 

Easts have made two changes to the side that beat Hunter in Newcastle last week, with Moli Sooaemalelagi to start at hooker and Lachie Bradford to play flyhalf.

Randwick v Western Sydney

Both Randwick and Western Sydney will look to bounce back from disappointing losses last week when they meet at Coogee on Saturday. 

Steve Hoiles has made three changes to his forward pack, with Hunter Stewart to start at prop, Jamie Rickward at lock and Matt Stead at flanker. In the backs, Joe Browning will start on the wing in place of Triston Reilly, who returns to the Waratahs. 

The Two Blues have made just two changes, with skipper Dan Faleafa set to start at lock and Heremoni Nepo returning at No.7.

Randwick (1-15)

Warringah v Gordon 

After playing from the bench in recent weeks, Rats skipper Ben Marr will start at fullback against Gordon. Harvey Elms shifts to the wing to make room for Marr. 

In the forwards, Jayden Lynch and Wayne Borsak will both start in the front row and Dane Tereki returns at lock. 

Gordon were disappointing against Southern Districts last week but found a way to win. Ben Kafer will start at flyhalf for the Stags, with Ben Pollack shifting back to fullback and James Armstrong set to start at outside centre. 

In the forwards, prop Liam Usher and locks Jack Margin and John Akau’ola-Laula all return to the starting side. 

Warringah (1-15)

Southern Districts v Eastwood

Both Southern Districts and Eastwood need to win on Saturday to remain within striking distance of the top six. 

Souths have made three changes to their forward pack with Sam Lindsay and Noah Ironside to start in the front row and Alan Fitzgerald returning in the backrow. 

For Eastwood, in-form flyhalf Matt Minogue will miss the trip to Forshaw with Blaise Barnes to start in the No.10 jersey.

After falling short against Sydney Uni last week, Pirates coach Cam Treloar has made widespread changes to his starting side. 

Fullback Vuate Karawalevu returns from the Waratahs, while James Faiva will also start at inside centre. 

In the forwards, Oisin Michel, Bradley Burton and Vaotangi Mafi will start in the front row, Otto-Louis Wendt returns at lock and Theo Tanda will start at No.6. 

Hunter were also disappointing last week in a home loss to Easts. Scott Coleman has named Sam Tufuga to start at prop, Tiueti Asi at No.8, Isaac Montoisy at No.9 and Frankie Nowell on the wing. 

West Harbour (1-15)
