Catch up on all the action from another surprising weekend of Shute Shield action.

Western Sydney 27 -19 Sydney Uni

Western Sydney produced another stunning upset, beating Sydney Uni 27-19 and proving to the entire Shute Shield that they are a force to be reckoned with this season.

Both sides scored twice in the first half and went to the break locked at 14 a piece before the Two Blues took control in the second half.

Western Sydney were unlucky not to score twice early in the second stanza but edged further ahead with a penalty goal.

The Two Blues then scored a terrific try from a lineout deep inside the Students’ 22. After setting up for a driving maul, prop Kayan Siteine-Tau looped around from the back of a lineout and passed to acting hooker Ethan Caine who dived over to score in the corner.

Flyhalf Tom Curtis, who scored the opening try and finished the game with 17 points then converted the try from the sideline to give the Two Blues a 24-14 lead.

Uni hit back with a try from a driving maul but had few answers for a Two Blues side late in the match who clearly wanted the result more than their opponents.

A penalty goal late in the match sealed a famous 27-19 win for Western Sydney.

Manly 34-32 Northern Suburbs

Manly claimed their fourth straight win and handed Norths a second straight defeat in a tight one at Manly Oval.

A Nathan Russell intercept helped Norths jump out to an 11-0 lead but from there it was all the Marlins.

Spurred on by a Langi Gleeson hatrick, the home side laid on 34 unanswered points on either side of the half time break to lead 34-11 in the 53rd minute.

Norths found their feet in the final 20 minutes, scoring first through Seb Cameron, then twice more  through Nick Duffy to reduce the deficit to two points with three minutes remaining.

But the early season favourites lost their way in the closing stages and couldn’t find a way through some strong Manly defence.

After losing their first game of the season, Manly are now equal first on 20 competition points, one point ahead of third placed Norths.

Southern Districts 38-19 Eastern Suburbs

Southern Districts produced their best performance of the season to claim an impressive 38-19 victory over Eastern Suburbs.

Todd Louden’s decision to switch Blaise Barnes from fullback to flyhalf appeared to be a masterstroke as the Rebels laid on four unanswered tries to lead 31-0 early in the second half.

Teddy Wilson and Jack Bowen both barged over for Easts midway through the second half but the visitors hopes of a comeback were ended when James Donato was red carded for a high shot.

A week after winning a thrilling local derby against Randwick, Easts looked tired and had few answers for the Rebels up front or out wide as Souths ended a three game losing streak with a 38-19 victory.

Hunter 28-8 West Harbour

Hunter secured their spot in the top eight with a hard fought 28-8 victory over West Harbour in Newcastle.

The visitors led early following some individual brilliance from flanker Carlo Tizzano but Hunter hit back with two penalty goals to take a narrow 6-5 lead to the break.

Both sides traded penalty goals early in the second half before Waratahs’ and Wildfires’ recruit Ruan Smith barged over from close range to give the home side a 16-8 lead in the 60th minute.

With a man in the bin, Hunter then pushed further ahead when Will Feeney scored in the corner following a dominant Wildfires’ scrum.

No.8 Lona Halahona then sealed the result when he scored to hand Hunter a 28-8 victory.

Eastwood 45-0 Warringah

Eastwood’s big, powerful backs had an absolute field day in an impressive 45 point victory over a disappointing Warringah outfit.

Centres Enoki Muliufi and Komity Tuilagi were near unstoppable, while fullback Lachlan Shelley and winger Fabian Goodall showed good speed to finish off every opportunity they were given.

Flyhalf Chris Bell ran the length of the field and scored from an intercept to finish the afternoon with 20 points.

There weren’t a lot of positive for Warringah who looked outplayed in every facet of the game. After a strong start to the season, the Rats have now lost three of their past four matches and face a tough test against Easts next week.

Eastwood face an in-form Manly outfit in a top of the table clash at Manly Oval.

Randwick 20-17 Gordon

Randwick defended a final raid from Gordon in the 79th minute to claim a 20-17 victory on a Heavy 10 track at Chatswood Oval.

In a match dominated by defence, it took 50 minutes for Gordon to score the first try of the afternoon.

Winger Alesana Pohla broke a tackle in the centre of the field and offloaded to Jordy Goddard who scored to give the home side a 10-6 lead.

Randwick No.9 Tim Sippell hit back with a try from a quick tap but Gordon responded almost immediately and crossed from a driving maul in the 56th minute to claim a 17-13 lead.

With the match in the balance, Randwick centre Nick Chan crossed in the 70th minute from a relatively simple short side set piece play and put the visitors ahead 20-17.

Gordon had an attacking line out 10 metres from the Randwick line in the final minute of the match but spilled the ball as they attempted to set their maul.
