Shute Shield Round 3: Team News

Some big names have been included in team lists right across the Shute Shield ahead of round three this weekend, headlined by the Two Blues debut of Fijian international Nemani Nadolo.

Check out all the team news, plus all changes from last weekend for this weekend’s six matches below:

Eastwood v Western Sydney

He’s played at some of the biggest rugby stadiums in the world and now Nemani Nadolo will get a taste of TG Milner. The Waratahs recruit will make his Shute Shield return against the Woodies and is one of four changes to a Two Blues’ side that fell short against Gordon. 

Jay Fonokalafi and Irie Papuni return at hooker and lock respectively, while Taliki Nadredre is back on the wing. 

For Eastwood, also winless after two rounds, Ed Craig and Wayne Borsak have been replaced by Max Stewart and Alex Pappalardo in the front row. Nick Russell and Jimmy Hokafonu have been added to the backrow with Michael Icely shifting to lock.

Gordon v Warringah

Waratahs No.9 Harrison Goddard is a chance to return for Gordon for their first home match of the season at Chatswood Oval. Joey Walton returns to the Tahs though and has been replaced Oli Arcus in the Stags’ backline. 

Warringah will welcome back Ben Marr from Aussie 7s duties as they search for their first win of the year. The Rats will be without forwards Sateki Latu and Sam Thomson though, with young prop Pat La Torraca and utility forward Max Girdler set to start in their place.

Sydney Uni v Hunter

Sydney Uni will be without Zac Von Appen for Saturday’s clash against Hunter, with Ed Scragg set to start for the Students. Mali Manukia, one of a number of young players who impressed in the Australian Club Championship win earlier this year will start at No.8. In the backs Simon Kennewell will start on the wing. 

Hunter will be without captain Rob Puliuvea for the Uni clash with Ngaruhe Jones set to start at lock. Alex Pohla will also start his first match of the season causing a backline reshuffle. Nate de Thierry shifts from No.12 to fullback, Tom Watson from No.13 to No.12 and Dan Fransen from fullback to wing.

West Harbour have made two changes to the side that fell just short against Easts last weekend, with promising young prop Siketi Tevao set to start for the Pirates, while in the backs, Taine Rush and Josh Brown have switched at No.12 and No.13. 

Southern Districts have made just one change with Noah Ironside set to start at prop.
