Shute Shield: Round 2 Team News & Analysis

A handful of coaches have swung the axe early after last weekend’s opening Shute Shield round.

Check out all the changes and each club’s starting XV ahead of round two on Saturday.

Gordon v Northern Suburbs

The first North Shore derby comes early this year with Gordon and Norths to meet at Chatswood in round two.

Gordon held off a late comeback from the Two Blues last week to claim an important 39-30 away win and are unchanged heading into the local derby.

Norths also won a tight one against Manly. George Thornton returns to the starting side this week at prop, as does Boston Kerapa, who shifts to lock in a seriously impressive Norths forward pack.

In the backs, former Eastwood playmaker Matt Minogue will make his starting debut for the Shoremen after coming off the bench at Manly Oval in round one.

Keep an eye on outside centre Otto Serfontein who impressed on debut last weekend.

Hunter are also settled heading into round two after opening their season with a big win over Warringah in Newcastle. The Wildfires led 36-8 before conceding a few late tries against a highly touted Rats outfit.

In the backs, young guns Tom Morrison, Jullien Caillol and Tom Watts have all been added to the starting side.

Former Wallaby Isi Naisarani is the big in for Randwick. Naisarani played at Uni last year but struggled to stay fit and it’ll be interesting to see what sort of shape the big backrower is in when he runs on at Camperdown.

Max Moore shifts from No.8 to No.6 to make room for Naisarani, while Randwick’s backline remains unchanged after the Wicks fell just short against Eastwood away last week.

In the forwards, Jayden Moujalli replaces Iain Carmichael at prop.

A new look Souths side stuck with Easts until midway through the second half last weekend but were blown away in the final 20 minutes.

In the forwards, Kaynan Siteine-Tua is back at prop, with Ezekiel Seia shifting to hooker.

Manly have named two new faces to make their run on debuts this weekend. Former Easts and Australian U20s forward Ben Di Staso will start at flanker while former Randwick and Waratahs backrower Sione Misiloi will also start against the Two Blues.
