Shute Shield: Round 13 Team News and Analysis

Warringah host Manly in the second Northern Beaches derby this year, while Randwick and Gordon and Western Sydney and Easts also meet in games with big finals implications.

Warringah v Manly

After beating Manly 30-19, Warringah will look to make it two from two in the Northern Beaches derby when they host the Marlins on Saturday. 

Josh Holmes’ side is unchanged following last week’s big win over Uni. 

Manly were disappointing against Gordon last week. They’ve named Kiwi Iosefa Maloney-Fiaola at lock. Maloney-Fiaola played with Nottingham this year. Lalakai Foketi is also listed on an extended bench.

Randwick v Gordon

Randwick and Gordon will both take form into Saturday’s clash at Coogee. 

Waratahs winger Triston Reilly is a big in for the Wicks, while Mitch Watts returns at lock. In the backs, either Jayden Blake or Zac Carr will start at outside centre. 

Gordon lost Joey Walton to Wallabies’ camp, while in form centre James Armstrong also hasn’t been named to face the defending premiers. Ben Kafer and Faiva Faiva will start in the midfield. 

Harry Emery also returns to the starting side at scrumhalf. 

Randwick (1-15)

Eastwood v Hunter 

Eastwood need to beat Hunter on Saturday to get their season back on track. Skipper Harry Turner returns to the starting side after playing from the bench in Eastwood’s last two matches. 

Fred Kaihea has been named at prop and Harry Snook will start at flyhalf in the the other changes to the Woodies starting side. 

Hunter coach Scott Coleman has swung the axe again after another disappointing loss. Ryan Toogood will start at hooker, Taufa Kinikini will start at lock and Tiueti Asi will start at No.6. 

In the backs, former Randwick and Souths No.9 Tyzac Jordan will make his Wildfires first grade debut. Centre Ueta Tufuga and winger Frankie Nowell also return to the starting XV.

Western Sydney v Eastern Suburbs

Western Sydney have named a settled side to face Easts in a crucial match for both teams. 

Kurt Heatherly was named at fullback last week for the Two Blues but didn’t end up playing. He’s been named again in the only change to Sailosi Tagicakibau’s side that belted Hunter. 

For Easts, Charlie Gamble will start at No.8, replacing returning Force forward Will Harris. Fergus Lee Warner also returns, while Julian Heaven will start at hooker after playing from the bench in last week’s loss to Randwick. 

Western Sydney (1-15)

Northern Suburbs v West Harbour

After narrowly missing out on a spot in the Aussie 7s Olympic squad, Max Burey will return for Norths in time to face an in form West Harbour side.

In the forwards, Hamish Sinclair will replace brother Hugh at lock and partner Tom Smith in the second row, while Ed Timpson has been named at open side flanker.

West Harbour have made just one change to the side that beat Eastwood last week, with Josh Thompson starting at lock. 

Northern Suburbs (1-15)

Sydney Uni v Southern Districts 

After conceding 50 points at Rat Park, Sydney Uni need to beat Souths at home on Saturday to get their season back on track. 

Todd Louden has made four changes to his starting side. Prop Paddy Tagg and lock Will Cocker return to the forward pack, While Sione Taufui will start at outside centre and Jack Matthews will start at fullback. 

For Souths, who scored 38 points in a loss to Norths last week, Mark O’Reilly replaces Jed Holloway in the Rebels’ backrow and Celeb Beams starts on the wing. 

Sydney Uni (1-15)
