Shute Shield Moneyball: Who’s been the best, who’s found trouble in the opening rounds
We’re three weeks in to the 205 Shute Shield season which is just enough time to start looking in to some key statistics across the competition to identify various outliers and look for trends across the board.
Across the competition, the dry start to the year has led to plenty of tries with each team scoring an average of 4.89 tries a match across the opening three weeks, up from 3.88 last year.
The lineout has somehow become even more important again this year. 52% of tries have originated from lineouts so far this season, up from 46% in 2024.
