Shute Shield Final Round Hypotheticals: What does your team need to happen this weekend?

With one round remaining in the regular season, there is still plenty to play for this weekend ahead of the opening weekend of the playoffs.

Warringah, Eastwood and Sydney Uni have locked up their spots in the top three while Gordon and Easts will both play to keep their seasons alive this weekend.

Warringah (62pts, 13 wins) – Southern Districts (A)

The Rats will secure the minor premiership if they can claim a bonus point win over Southern Districts at Forshaw on Saturday.

While second placed Eastwood have a superior points differential, Warringah will remain on top if the two sides finish on equal competition points thanks to an extra win during the regular season.

A loss this weekend could see the 2017 premiers finish anywhere from first to third.

Eastwood (62pts, 12 wins) – Eastern Suburbs (A)

Eastwood will be out to secure their spot in the top two with a win over Easts at Woollahra this weekend. If they do so, they could leapfrog Warringah into top spot if the Rats fail to take maximum points from their trip south to play the Rebels.

A loss to Easts will likely see the Woodies drop to third.

Sydney Uni (59pts, 11 wins) – West Harbour (A)

The Students need to win this weekend and hope Warringah and Eastwood don’t to leapfrog either side into the top two.

Considering they’ve already secured their spot in the top three, Rob Taylor may choose to rest some key players ahead of a big three week final series.

Northern Suburbs (52pts, 10 wins) – Randwick (H)

Norths look set to face an in form Sydney Uni side in the opening week of the playoffs.

If they win this weekend, they’ll finish fourth and more than likely play the third placed Students.

If they lose to Randwick and Easts beat Eastwood, they’ll drop to fifth and still face the Students, provided Warringah beat Souths this weekend.

Eastern Suburbs (47pts, 9 wins) – Eastwood (H)

Easts got out of gaol thanks to a Jack Grant try at the death against Gordon on Saturday but still haven’t secured a finals spot just yet.

If Gordon beat eleventh placed Western Sydney this weekend, Easts will need to beat Eastwood to book a spot in the playoffs.

If they do so, they’ll finish fourth or fifth and most likely play either Eastwood or Sydney Uni in week one.

If they lose and Gordon don’t beat the Two Blues, Easts will finish sixth and face the minor premiers first up.

Manly (46pts, 8 wins) – Bye

Manly have snuck into this year’s playoffs, despite giving up a 42-21 lead against West Harbour on Saturday, albeit under fairly dubious circumstances.

Regardless, Manly will receive five competition points during their bye round this weekend and will finish fifth or sixth, depending on the result of the Easts v Eastwood clash.

Gordon (44pts, 8 wins) – Western Sydney (A)

Gordon had their hearts broken against Easts at home on Saturday but are still well and truly alive this season.

The Stags need to claim a bonus point win over Western Sydney and then hope Easts lose to Eastwood on Saturday.

If that occurs, Manly will jump to fifth and Gordon will leapfrog Easts into sixth spot.
