Shute Shield Colts: Randwick strike late to break Manly hearts in thriller
Randwick scored with the final play of the game to beat Manly in a 77-point thriller at Manly Oval to keep their unbeaten start to the season alive and hand the Marlins their first loss of 2019.
As two of the three undefeated teams remaining in the competition, there was plenty of hype surrounding Saturday’s colts match and it didn’t disappoint.
Manly flyhalf Jack Walsh scored early to get his side on the board before the defending premiers took control.
Randwick No.8 Declan Leaney scored back to back tries, then hooker Nick Katsogiannis crossed to give the Galloping Greens 21-7 lead at the break.
Manly looked like a different side early in the second half and ran in four unanswered tries to take what looked to be a match winning 35-21 lead.
But the Wicks refused to go away. No.8 Finn Kearns scored twice, levelling the scores with his second, before Tane Edmed, who kicked 6/6, scored at the death to break the home fan’s hearts and secure a seven point win
