Intrust Super Shute Shield 1st Grade: Final Round Hypotheticals

With one round remaining, eight teams are still a mathematical chance of playing finals footy this year and with six of those sides playing one another this weekend, there is still a lot to be decided.

Here’s a look at how your teams finals campaign may look after round 18 finishes on Saturday.

Week One Finals Fixtures:

1 v 6, 2 v 5, 3 v 4

Manly (1st: 73pts, +260) – West Harbour (A)

Manly wrapped up the 2017 minor premiership last weekend with a 48-38 win over Penrith despite trailing the spirited Emus 19-17 late in the first half. The Marlins will host a semi final at Manly Oval in week one against either Eastwood, Sydney Uni or West Harbour.

Eastwood host Penrith in round 18 and are in the box seat to claim sixth spot, unless they fail to claim a bonus point win or Sydney Uni beat Parramatta by a cricket score.

Randwick (2nd: 62pts, +227) – Southern Districts (H)

Randwick take on Souths at home in round 18 and will secure second spot and a home semi final if they beat the Rebels on Saturday. As the Galloping Greens (11 wins) have one more victory than Warringah and Norths (both 10 wins), they will not need a four try bonus point to finish second, if they can beat Souths.

If Randwick lose to the Rebels, they will most likely finish fourth and travel to play third in the opening week of the playoffs.

Southern Districts (3rd: 61pts, +245) – Randwick (A)

Southern Districts claimed their eighth straight win and leapfrogged Warringah into third spot after beating the Rats on Saturday and the Rebels can jump up again into second position with a bonus point win over Randwick on Saturday.

If the Rebels win without a bonus point and Warringah beat Norths with a bonus point, Souths will finish third. If both Souths and Warringah finish on 66 or 65 competition points, Souths will finish ahead of Warringah as they have one more win to their name.

If Southern Districts lose to Randwick, they will most likely finish fourth and travel to play third in week one regardless of the Warringah v Norths result.

Warringah (4th: 61pts, +206) – Northern Suburbs (A)

Warringah dropped to fourth after last weekend’s loss to Souths but can finish in the top three and book a home semi final at Rat Park with a win over Norths on Saturday. If Warringah win and Randwick beat Souths, the Rats will finish third but Warringah can jump into second spot if Souths win and bonus points go the Rats way.

If Warringah lose to Norths and don’t pick up a bonus point, they will finish fifth and travel to play second in week one.

Northern Suburbs (5th: 59pts, +224) – Warringah (H)

After struggling through the middle of the season, Norths claimed their third straight win on Saturday and can jump up into third or fourth win a win over Warringah at North Sydney Oval this weekend.

If Norths win with a bonus point and Randwick beat Souths, the Shoreman will finish third. If they win without a bonus point, they will finish fourth if Souths lose but pick up two bonus points at Coogee Oval.

If Norths lose to Warringah, they will finish fifth and travel to play second in week one.

Eastwood (6th: 50pts, +87) – Penrith (H)

Eastwood may have lost five of their last six matches but the Woodies will still claim sixth spot if they win with a bonus point against Penrith this weekend, unless Sydney Uni can win by a truckload against Parramatta and jump Eastwood on points differential.

If the Woodies beat Penrith without a bonus point, they open the door for both Sydney Uni and West Harbour to steal sixth spot.

If Eastwood lose and either Uni or the Pirates win, the Woodies will miss the playoffs.

Sydney Uni (7th: 50pts, +48) – Parramatta (A)

Sydney Uni are still alive this year but a lot needs to go right for the Students this weekend. If Eastwood beat Penrith with a bonus point, Sydney Uni will need to beat Parramatta by more than 39 points plus what ever Eastwood beat Penrith by this weekend.

If Eastwood lose or fail to score four tries, a bonus point win over Parramatta will be enough for Sydney Uni to claim sixth spot and book an opening week clash at Manly.

West Harbour (8th: 49pts, -48) – Manly (H)

West Harbour are still technically in the running for a finals spot but even the most optimistic of fans at Concord may already have made plans for next weekend. The Pirates will need to beat Manly by more than 90 odd points and rely on Eastwood and Sydney Uni to both lose and/or fail to score four tries this weekend.

If anyone can do it though, the Pirates can.

Gordon, Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta & Penrith:

Gordon, Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta & Penrith won’t be playing finals footy this year but will all be looking to end their seasons on a high on Saturday.

Special mention to Penrith, who made Manly fans nervous last weekend.
