The Melbourne Rebels have secured the services of one of the most exciting prospects in Australian Rugby with former Australian Schoolboys fly-half Jack McGregor to join the club from 2017.

The 19-year-old Gordon junior captained NSW Schools in 2015 and claimed the RUPA Medal as the best player in the Australian Schools Championships final, before being picked in the Australian Schoolboys side.

“We’re thrilled that Jack will be joining the Melbourne Rebels,” Melbourne Rebels General Manager Rugby Operations Baden Stephenson said.

“Jack is a quality player with a huge future in front of him and his skill set, hungry attitude and maturity will be well suited to our club.”

The former St Ignatius’ College student, who also represented the school at the State Athletics Championship, is a New South Wales product after representing the state since a young age.

“I’m very excited to sign my first contract, it’s been a long time dream for me since I was a kid so to sign with the Melbourne Rebels is very exciting for me and my family,” McGregor said.

“I’ve always enjoyed my time in Sydney but there was an opportunity to sign with the Rebels and the feeling I get down here around the culture that’s been built is pretty exciting and a major factor behind the move.”

“I get a good feeling chatting with Tony (McGahan) and the coaches and about their expectations so I’m looking forward to next year.”

McGregor’s signing follows the recent retention of Tom English, Ben Meehan and Sam Jeffries.
