Schoolboy games to be broadcast live
THE next generation of Southern Hemisphere rugby stars will get their 80 minutes of fame after FOX SPORTS and RUGBY.com.au agreed to telecast key games in the Tri Nations Series in Sydney over the next fortnight.
FOX SPORTS will broadcast the clash between Australia Schools and NZ Schools on Saturday 7 October live, with RUGBY.com.au to bring fans close to the action with the other schools international matches kicking off on Monday 2 October.
The matches will culminate with a festival of Rugby at TG Milner on Saturday 7 October when the Australia Schools side will play NZ Schools before the Greater Sydney Rams play Fijian Drua in the round five National Rugby Championship clash.
The matches kick off on Thursday at Know Grammar with Fiji Schools taking on NZ Schools.
Australia Schools Head Coach, Pat Langtry said: “The National Championships this year showed us that there was a strong range of talent coming through which created a lot of selection headaches.
“The team has come together really well and we are continuing to build strongly ahead of our first clash against Fiji Schoolboys.
“Both sides will be very challenging with very different playing styles that we will have to adapt to but we are looking forward to meeting the challenge head on.”
ARU Head of National XVs Programs, Adrian Thompson said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting these matches and I know our two Australian squads have been working hard in preparing to play at home.
“To host this year means we are fortunate in that we can give more opportunities to the Australian Barbarians side to play International Rugby and will expand our depth as these young men continue their journey in Rugby over the coming years. “
Australian Schoolboys matches have an important place in the Australian Rugby calendar and is an important cog in our pathways machine in producing elite talent.”
