Randwick appoint Stephen Hoiles as first grade coach for 2023
Randwick have appointed former Wallaby and Shute Shield premiership winner Stephen Hoiles as head coach ahead of the 2023 season.
Hoiles most recently coached the LA Gilitinis in the US Major League Rugby Competition but will return to his old club following the departure of former coach Ben McCormack.
After four seasons in charge at Coogee, McCormack is returning to Brisbane ahead of the birth of his first child.
Hoiles played over 100 first grade games for the Galloping Greens and was a member of the club’s last Shute Shield premiership side in 2004.
Randwick haven’t featured in a Shute Shield grand final since 2010, despite boasting arguably one of the country’s best and most successful colts programs through the same period.
“We are absolutely delighted Stephen has agreed to return to Sydney and to his old club,” Randwick president John Tuxworth said.
“He is a Randwick man through & through – a Coogee local, a junior, a colt, a first grader, who then became a Waratah & Wallaby. He now comes the full circle back to lead our First-Grade team and drive it to success as our Head Coach.”
