The Queensland Reds have  today announced the signature of St.George Illawarra Dragons winger Eto Nabuli for two years.

The 27-year-old grew up playing the 15-man code in Sigatoka, Fiji, but has played Rugby League in Australia for the past three years – playing 13 games for the Dragons in 2015.

Nabuli was famously spotted by league legend Brad Fittler whilst working in a hotel in Fiji and scouted to play in the NRC.

At 197cm and weighing 108kg, he experienced a rapid rise in his professional career. In 2013 he was named in the NSW Cup Team of the Year after scoring 29 tries in his first season.

In 2014 he made his international Rugby League debut for Fiji and starred for the Panthers in their 2014 NSW Cup Grand Final win over Newcastle. He then signed a one-year contract with the Dragons to play in the NRL in 2015 – scoring seven tries in 13 games.

Nabuli starred in the Dragons narrow 11-10 elimination final loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday night, crossing for the St.George side’s only try.

Nabuli said he was looking forward to returning to Rugby and challenging himself to make his Super Rugby debut for the Reds.

“My hometown of Sigatoka is known as a Rugby town, so it’s exciting to be heading back to the sport I grew up with,” Nabuli said.

“It will be a big challenge for me, but I will train hard and work hard to earn my place in the team. I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. This will be a good move for my future and for my family.”
