QLD Country score late try to break NSW Country hearts in Newcastle

On a cold evening in Newcastle, NSW Country score twice in the opening 30 minutes to claim a 10-0 lead before QLD Country hit back with a try and a penalty goal to trail 10-8 at the break. As conditions worsened, the match turned into an arm wrestle. NSW Country extended their lead with a penalty goal, before QLD Country hit back with a try in the corner to level the scores as 13-13 midway through the second half. NSW Country looked to have sealed victory when reserve back Grant Knight kicked a field goal in the 78th minute. But the visitors had the last laugh, crashing over from close range with the final play of the match to claim a 18-16 win. Earlier in the afternoon, NSW Country Colts kicked a penalty goal on full time to claim a 23-20 victory over QLD Country Colts after leading 20-5 at half time.
