Premier Rugby: Wests claim second straight win, beating Bond in the wet

Torrential rain in Brisbane over the weekend saw three Premier Rugby matches postponed.

In the one match played, Wests produced their best performance of the season to beat Bond.

Wests secured a second straight win against Bond on a mud bath at Scifleet Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors made a fast start when Bond captain Dan Boardman slid over in the 1st minute.

Elwee Prinsloo’s men dominated the rest of the first half proceedings though, piling on four tries.

Bulldog’s outside back Fletcher Spicer pulled off a miraculous chip and chase effort, while winger Benjamin Navosailagi crossed for a double in the first forty to leave the halftime score at 24 – 8.

Both sides added one try in the second stanza as Wests made it two wins on the trot ahead of a clash with Sunnybank, while Bond lost their first encounter of the season and play Norths next weekend.

Fletcher Spicer – Wests

You would hardly have known their was torrential rain over the weekend, considering the way Wests’ Fletcher Spicer performed on Saturday.

The outside centre not only scored a potential try of the season with a long-range chip and chase effort in the wet, he also threw a precise cut out pass for winger Ben Navosailagi’s first try.

George Blake – Bond

Bond’s hooker made the most of the trying circumstances on a tough afternoon for the visitors.

Despite the difficult conditions, Blake executed his lineout throws superbly and crossed for a five pointer on the back of a driving maul in the second half.
