Premier Rugby Round 6: Five standout performers

Bond, UQ, GPS and Sunnybank secured Indigenous round wins on Saturday, while Souths and Norths are still without a victory.

Here are five standout performances from the weekend.

TJ Siakasini – UQ

The big Student continued his strong 2022 form with an imposing display against Easts at Bottomley Park on Saturday.

Siakasini set the tone for UQ when he followed up a mountain of early carries with a powerful run that produced the first five pointer of the game.

He continued his dominance in the next half with a barnstorming effort that set up Connor Molloy to score in the first minute of the second stanza.

Max Baker – Easts

The winger was a shining light for the home team as they went down to a dominant UQ side.

Easts’ speedster showed tremendous pace, agility and tackle-breaking ability to score two of his side’s three tries.

Joey Fittock – Bond

The Bull Shark’s fullback showed his vision and class as Bond claimed their fourth win from five outings against Souths.

Bond’s No.15 threw a bullet pass in field to set up Nixon Taramai for Bond’s third first half try. He also delivered a lovely cut out ball to Maxwell Dowd to seal the Bull Shark’s win.

Hudson Meyer – GPS

The GPS scrumhalf helped create most of his sides’ scoring opportunities in their low scoring victory over Wests.

Meyer’s ingenious flick pass set up GPS’ only first half score, while his short ball allowed Emosi Tuqiri to score and take the Gallopers to victory.

Josh Fenner – Sunnybank

Sunnybank coach Sione Fukofuka said Fenner had been a shining light for the Dragon’s early in the season and his form continued on Saturday against Norths.

The No.8 helped Sunnybank to their first win with two tries in the match. His second try coming from a set piece scrum that put the result beyond doubt and gave the home fans at Biggs Oval plenty to cheer about.
