Premier Rugby: Round 3 Wrap Up

Round three of the Hospital Cup saw victories for Wests, UQ, Bond and Brothers, while Norths and Souths remain without a win for the season.

Catch up on the action below.

Easts 34 v Wests 43

Wests claimed their first victory of the season in a high scoring encounter against Easts at Bottomley Park on Saturday.

The Bulldogs led 17-0 ten minutes into the match thanks to tries from prop Sione Latu Talakai and hooker Ethan Dobbins.

Tigers’ debutant Martin Brennan kept Easts in the contest with two of his four tries coming in the first forty to leave the halftime score at 30-12.

A Zac Shepherd smother and try continued Easts momentum in the opening stages of the second forty, as they came within seven points of the visitors.

Despite conceding a red card, the Bulldogs went on to secure their first win of the season courtesy of a Keynan Tauakipulu try with five minutes left on the clock.

Wests will face the undefeated Bond at Scifleet Stadium in Round 4, while Easts will look to get their season back on track with a victory against the winless Norths.

Souths 10 v UQ 19

UQ maintained their undefeated record with a win against Souths at Chipsy Wood Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Winger Fred Keil’s burst of speed set up TJ Siakisini to score UQ’s first five pointer in the 6th minute.

UQ lock Connor Vest secured a crucial not releasing penalty to prevent South’s from scoring with only fourteen Student’s on the field.

Hooker Jake Tierney continued his try scoring form to leave UQ ahead 12-0 at the break.

Magpie’s scrumhalf Jakob Morrison darted over the line after the final siren to leave the margin at nine points.

Souths remain winless in 2022 heading into Round 4, while UQ head into the bye with an unblemished record.

Bond 23 v GPS 14

Bond made it two from two with a hard-fought win against GPS at home on Saturday.

The Gallopers opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Bond replied with a Helamen Samuela try minutes later.

Tensions between the sides boiled over as GPS lock Daniel Byrne was sent to the sin bin at halftime for a lineout infringement.

Consecutive Hayden Sargeant penalty conversions helped Bond build a nine-point lead with twelve minutes to play.

Bond put the result to bed after winger Joey Fittock finished off some soccer skills with a try post the 80th minute.

Bond remain undefeated heading into a clash with Wests, while GPS suffered their first defeat of the season ahead of a Round 4 match against Sunnybank.

Norths 7 v Brothers 35

Brothers secured their second win on the trot against Norths at Hugh Courtney Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The Filth opened the scoring in the 8th minute despite some stingy Norths’ defence.

A Tyler Adams no look pass set up Mosiah Christian to kick and chase for a special individual try – his second of the first half.

Brothers piled on more pain as Callum Hicks and Thomas Jeffries added five pointers in the second forty.

Eagles’ Captain Will Rogers added a consolation try to give the home fans something to cheer about.

The winless Norths battle Easts next week, while Brothers will hope to pull off their third straight win next Saturday against Souths.
