Premier Rugby Round 10: 5 Standout Performers

Round ten of the Hospital Cup saw crucial victories for Wests, Brothers, Easts and Souths.

Here are five standout performances from the weekend.

Ethan Dobbins – Wests

Wests’ hooker first five pointer came courtesy of a brilliant set play from a lineout. Skipper Sione Latu Talakai wrapped around to the short side of the scrum to find Dobbins in space for a special first try of the game.

Dobbins’ second try saw him break free from the back of a rolling maul to find himself again in space fifteen metres from the white line.

Jake Pappin – Easts

Not only did Pappin steer his side around the park all day but the play maker managed to run in two five pointers for Easts in their tight win over Sunnybank.

The flyhalf’s first try saw him majestically step and weave his way past multiple Sunnybank defenders to score under the posts and add to the Tigers first half onslaught.

Pappin flew into the left corner after receiving a brilliant offload to score his second five pointer right on half time.

Lukhan Salakaia-Loto – Souths

The big Magpie was influential in securing Souths’ second victory for the season over Norths.

Salakaia-Loto drew a yellow card and subsequent points for his side when they trailed early in proceedings.

The lock produced plenty of strong carries, and also set up souths second try for inside centre Corey Davis. The No.19 managed to score a try himself after running off the back of a lineout like a steam train and reaching out for the line.

Mosiah Christian – Brothers

In a game where attacking opportunities proved few and far between, Christian’s energy and exuberance separated the two sides.

The scrumhalf’s quick thinking, vision and dynamic ball playing helped Brother’s forward pack make big metres and strong field position that led to tries.

Mathew Skipwith-Garland – Easts

The outside centre produced a wonderful no look inside ball for fullback Meli Dreu to score Easts opening points. His first try took little effort thanks to a superb ball from scrumhalf Elijah Pilz.

Skipwith-Garland’s second try was a beautifully timed interception in the opening ten minutes of the second half that seemingly put the game to bed.
