Wests 24-5 Sunnybank

Wests moved to the top of the ladder with a victory against Sunnybank at Biggs Oval on Saturday.

The Bulldogs failed to capitalise on a dominant first half performance, only leading 10–0 at the break thanks to some dogged Sunnybank defence, but extended that lead after the break following a penalty try from a 5 metre scrum.

Sunnybank’s first try came in the 70th minute courtesy of a long-range passing sequence that allowed winger Lathaniel Tiatia to finish with a brilliant sprint for the corner.

Bulldog’s reserve forward Vilikesa Raboiliku then scored in the final minutes to secure a 24-7 victory for the visiting Wests’ side.

Wests now sit atop the ladder ahead of a clash with GPS next week, while Sunnybank will play the also winless Norths.

Brothers 21 – 14 UQ

Brothers upset an undefeated UQ side in an impressive performance at St Lucia on Saturday afternoon.

The visitor’s opening try came from Michael Wood in his first start as a premier grade front rower.

Callum Hicks crossed in the corner to leave the visitors in a strong halftime position at 12-0.

UQ’s No.8 Nuku Swerling was red carded early in the second stanza for a high shot on Brothers’ Mitch Lowrie.

Despite Braiden Oates’ taking UQ within four points of Brothers, the visitors held on for a famous win thanks to Tayler Adams’ 75th minute penalty conversion.

UQ suffered their first loss of 2022 ahead of a matchup with Easts next weekend, while Brothers will be full of confidence and head into the bye.

Norths 13 v Bond 38

Bond secured their third win of the season against Norths at Hugh Courtney Oval on Saturday.

A brilliant individual effort from Bond winger Abele Atunaisa made it 14-0 to the visitors early in the first half.

Norths fought back with two tries of their own though and trailed 21-13 at the break.

Bull Shark’s flanker Connor Pritchard scored his second try of the match thanks to a beautifully weighted cross-field kick from flyhalf Hayden Sargeant.

Grant Anderson’s men scored three unanswered second half tries to run away with a dominant victory.

Bond will play Souths at home in round six, while one of Norths and Sunnybank will come away with their first win next weekend when they face off at Biggs Oval.
