Olympic Sevens stars to relive Rio experience in Sydney on Monday evening
Stars from the Australian men’s and women’s Olympic Sevens sides will relive their Rio experiences at a Rugby Business Network function in Sydney on Monday evening.
Hosted by Gordon Bray, gold medalist Charlotte Caslick, Australian coaches Andy Friend and Tim Walsh and men’s stars Ed Jenkins, Lewis Holland and Jesse Parahi will share their experiences.
“We are all really excited about Monday night,” Parahi told Rugby News.
“I think a few of the other boys have been before, but this will be my first RBN and I’ve heard a lot about it so I’m looking forward to meeting some new people and to have a chat about the last few months.”
Parahi and his teammates returned to training at Narrabeen yesterday and admitted the side was still getting over their disappointing finish to the Olympic tournament.
“Three is a lot of luck involved in Sevens but to be honest, I don’t think there was a lot of that in the first game, we just struggled to get started against France and that changed our road to the quarter finals,” he said,
“We pulled it together against Spain and then South Africa in the morning but by the afternoon, they had worked out how we were trying to play and came up with a pretty good counter attack to stop us in the quarterfinal.
“It was hard to lose that way but I think we learnt a lot from the experience and will take a lot into the next World Series.”
The 27-year old said he still has plenty of fond memories from Rio, some of which he will share on Monday evening.
“Watching the girls win was unbelievable. We didn’t get to go out to the ground because we were playing the next day but we all watched it together in the hub with all the other athletes and it was a massive buzz,” he said.
“They had worked really hard for it and were the form team going into the tournament so it was great to see them get the result.
“It might sound cliché but the opening and closing ceremonies were unbelievable. The atmosphere was just electric even though it was raining for the closing ceremony but it was still unforgettable.”
The Rugby Business Network is a not-for-profit networking community, which is the world’s number one facilitator of online and offline networking amongst business people with a passion for rugby. There are in excess of 25,000 RBN members globally.
