NSW Schools: Waverley & Scots claim CAS & GPS premierships

Waverley have claimed their second straight CAS premiership, defeating Knox, the team they shared the title with last year, in the final round.

Elsewhere, Scots held off a fast finishing Kings outfit to wrap up the GPS premiership with one round remaining.

At Queens Park, over 5000 fans watched Waverley produce arguably their best 15 minutes of rugby this year to blow Knox away and claim an impressive 47-17 win and the outright premiership

The home side led 26-5 at the break before Knox played their way back into the match and scored twice to reduce the deficit to just nine points in the 65th minute.

With the match and the outright title on the line, Waverley kicked up a gear and produced some trademark running rugby to score three unanswered tries and seal a memorable season.

Elsewhere, Barker claimed second spot after a 63-10 win over Cranbrook, while Tane Edmed kicked a conversion on full time to seal a 21-19 come from behind victory for Trinity over At Aloysius’.

Down the road from Queens Park, Scots also claimed a tight win to seal the GPS premiership after letting a big lead slip in the second half.

The home side dominated early and scored four answered tries to take a 24-0 lead at the break. However Kings were up for the challenge and looked like a different side in the second half, scoring three tries to reduce the deficit to just three points with 10 minutes remaining.

Looking to spoil the party at Bellevue Hill, Kings gave everything in the closing stages but were unable to break the Scots defence, as the home side held on to claim a 24-21 victory and a fifth straight premiership.

In other matches, Joeys and Riverview both claimed comfortable wins over Newington and Shore.
