NSW players dominate Australia A Schoolboys selection ahead of Japan tour
NSW players have dominated selection in the Australia A squad that will tour Japan later this year.
Australia A coach Mark Moxon and his coaching staff, selected a 27 man squad for the first international schoolboy tour in several years following the final day of the Australian Schools Championships at Knox in Sydney on Saturday.
The Australian Schools Championships is contested by the best under 18 talent, not selected in the Waratahs, Reds, Brumbies, Rebels and Force U18s academies. Those players will vie for selection in the Australian U18s side later this year.
On top of two teams from NSW and QLD, and a team from ACT and Victoria, a NSW Juniors U18s and a NSW Barbarians side contested the tournament. These sides featured U18s players from right across the state who qualified from a range on non-traditional pathways.
Three players – Luron Patea from Hills Sports High, Samu Tuisau from West Harbour and Ben Park from Newcastle Hunter – earned selection in the Australia A squad from these pathways.
The Australia A squad features 19 players from NSW and four players each from QLD and ACT and will tour Japan later this year.
