NSW Gen Blue U19s Possibles v Probables squad announced for open trial
The best young rugby players in the state will play for a spot in the 2018 NSW Gen Blue U19s training squad on Sunday in an open trial against one another and the NSW Country Colts side.
Four even NSW Gen Blue sides will be selected on Saturday evening after each players availability is confirmed following their club match on Saturday.
NSW Gen Blue director Pat McCutcheon invited club coaches to nominate any player that they thought was capable of earning a spot in the NSW U19s side this year and the Australian U20s 2019 squad.
“I’m really excited about the trial format and I think we’re going to uncover a few diamonds in the rough,” McCutcheon said.
“We’ve obviously been watching a lot of colts footy this year and have been identifying players, but the club coaches are the ones that know their players best.”
McCutcheon said all fit players interested in selection in the NSW squad were required to play in Sunday’s open trial, regardless of previous representative experience.
“We want everyone playing and that’s going to give us a really good opportunity to watch these guys go up against one another.
“This format is going to give us the best chance of identifying the best players and putting together the best squad to compete at the National Championships later this year.
“I’m also really excited that the NSW Country boys get a chance to trial directly against the best Sydney players. It’s going to be a really good day of rugby.”
