NSW Gen Blue coach Tim Rapp said he is confident his side will bounce back from last weekend’s loss to Queensland U20s in the opening round of the inaugural Super 20’s tournament, ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Brumbies Colts in Canberra.

The NSW U20s side were beaten 37-22 by their northern rivals last Saturday and will most likely need to win their remaining three games to qualify for the Super 20’s final.

“It was disappointing. Heading into round one, it’s hard to know where you are at as a side and playing Queensland in the opening week was always going to be tough,” Rapp told Rugby News.

“We were disappointed with our detail. Queensland played very well and deserved to win but we just weren’t good enough.”

Despite the loss, Rapp said there were plenty of positives to take out of the match and a lot to build on ahead of Friday night’s clash in Canberra

“I think everyone did some nice things individually, but for us, we generally need to play well together as a team because we have so many young guys.”

NSW winger Guy Porter has been ruled out of the clash with an ankle injury and has been replaced by James Perlowski, while Saiosi Halifonua has been named at No.8 after missing last weekend’s clash with a concussion.

Rapp said he expected another tough encounter against the young Brumbies.

“What we are seeing through a lot of the under 20s sides is that they are replicating the style of play that their senior team plays. Over the last two years that’s been something that has been really beneficial to us at the Waratahs.”

“I think they will look to deliver a very similar game plan to the one the Brumbies used last week against the Hurricanes. It’s their first crack at this new competition so I have no doubt they’ll be up for the match.”
