NSW Gen Blue coach Tim Rapp has invited 45 of the best 18 and 19-year old players from this year’s Shute Shield colts competition to play in a three-way trial match in Sydney tomorrow.

After the trial, Rapp and his coaching staff will select an extended training squad to begin preparations for next year’s Australian U20s Championship.

“Throughout the colts season we speak with the club coaches and get their opinion on the under 18 and 19-year old players in their squads and also the opposition players that they feel are up to the next level for the following season,” Rapp told Rugby News.

“We’re lucky to have a quality colts competition and quality coaches in our clubs in Sydney and we value their opinion on the players coming through, so we listen.”

“There are plenty of players who don’t make representative teams at school for whatever reason and plenty of players who leave school before year 12, so it is important that we give those guys a chance to trial.”

16 returning players from the 2016 NSW Gen Blue squad will not participate in tomorrow’s trial but will be available for selection.
