Western Sydney Rams coach John Muggleton has announced part of his playing squad for the 2016 National Rugby Championship, beginning with his halfbacks. Queenslander Scott Gayle, Southern Districts’ Waldo Wessels and Randwick youngster Harrison Goddard will battle for the No.9 jersey. Gayle played two matches for the Queensland Reds in 2014 after captaining the Queensland U20s side. He also played with QLD Country in the 2014 NRC before injuring his ankle. Wessels played Australian Schoolboys in 2011 and Australian U20s in 2013 but has struggled with knee injuries for a number of years. The 23-year old was impressive for Southern Districts this year and challenged Dewet Roos for the first grade spot. Goddard is also an Australian Schoolboy and led Randwick to a second grade premiership this year. Muggleton will release his full squad in the coming days ahead of the Rams opening match against the Sydney Rays later this month.
