Stephen Larkham has given a number of his new recruits an early opportunity to impress the Brumbies coaching staff in Saturday nights trial against the Waratahs in Wagga.

Playing alongside seven internationals in the Brumbies line-up, highly touted young gun Jordan Jackson-Hope and Canberra Vikings flyer Aiden Toua will both make their Brumbies debut at inside centre and fullback respectively.

“Jordan signed a development contract pre-Christmas on the back of his pre-season form,” Larkham said.

“He trained really well, he trained with us last year as well. He fits in really nicely with the team and with Christian (Lealiifano) out it’s a good opportunity for Jordan to get his first taste of Super Rugby.”

With the Brumbies and Waratahs set to meet again in round one of the 2016 Super Rugby season, Larkham said he expected a high intensity clash to played in Wagga.

“Players from both teams are going out there with something to prove,” Larkham said.

“There’s a number of guys getting an opportunity with our team and it’s the same with their team, there’s a few Wallabies sitting out of their squad.

“Everyone who takes the paddock will be trying to put their best foot forward and if that means a bit of confrontation then I’m sure they’ll bring that.”

Young gun Nick Jooste will also be making his debut off the bench for the Brumbies after becoming only the sixth Australian player to sign a Super Rugby contract whilst still in school.

Larkham said Jooste would get some time off the bench.

“Nick is going to get some time at 10 on the weekend,” Larkham said.

“We wanted to give Matty (Toomua) some time at 10 as well. Pup [Toomua] will start with the goal-kicking duties and then Nick [Jooste] will take over when he comes on.”

Argentinian scrumhalf Tomas Cubelli is also expected to make his Brumbies debut.

“He’s got a great understanding of Rugby,” Larkham said.

“Once he gets on the field and he feels that competitive adrenaline surge come through he knows what to do out there.

“I think we’ll see this weekend as his first test and then next weekend against the Reds and if all goes to plan we’ll see him out on GIO Stadium that first round and I think people will be pleasantly surprised.”

The Brumbies face the NSW Waratahs at McDonald Park in Wagga Wagga on Saturday 7pm.
