Kevin Locke signs to play Intrust Shute Shield & NRC

Former NRL star and New Zealand Rugby League international Kevin Locke has signed to play the remainder of the Intrust Shute Shield season with Southern Districts, before linking with the Greater Sydney Rams for the 2016 National Rugby Championships. The 27-year old, goal kicking outside back scored 26 tries in 88 NRL matches and represented New Zealand on eight occasions before spending two seasons in the UK Super League. Locke is recovering from a shoulder reconstruction but is expected to make his Shute Shield debut through the lower grades in the weeks to come. Southern Districts coach Matt Barr told Rugby News he was “hopeful” Locke would be fully fit for the Shute Shield finals before he makes his NRC debut for the Rams in late August. The signing is a huge boost for the Rebels, who were beaten by Manly 16-15 this afternoon.
