Intrust Shute Shield: 2016 Season Previews – Part Two
By Sam Ryan
The opening round of the Intrust Super Shute Shield is just around the corner and before it begins, Rugby News will take a look at all 12 sides and see how they are shaping up ahead of what will likely be one of the closest competitions in years.
In part two, we preview Eastern Suburbs, Southern Districts and Warringah.
EASTERN SUBURBS – with Darren Coleman
Eastern Suburbs had a disappointing 2015, finishing 10th with just four wins. Despite that, Darren Coleman believes his side will turn things around this season on the back of the a strong preseason and increased depth throughout the club.
SOUTHERN DISTRICTS – with Matt Barr
Southern Districts led Eastwood 21-0 in last year’s preliminary final, but were unable to finish the job and ended their season a week earlier then planned. They’ll be without some of their most consistent performers in 2016, however Matt Barr still remains confident that his side will be in the mix for a top four finish this year.
WARRINGAH – with Greg Marr
Warringah were one of the form sides in the second half of the 2015 season, but were beaten by eventual premiers Eastwood in the opening week of the finals. The Rats have lost six first grade forwards ahead of 2016, but still boast plenty of experience around the park and will be tough to beat at Pittwater this season.
