Hot or not: Who’s in form heading into the final month of the Hospital Cup regular season
There’s a lot to play for in the final four weeks of the 2024 Hospital Cup regular season.
While Brothers look set to claim the minor premiership, just six competition points seperate UQ in second and Jeeps in fifth, with Bond still within striking distance of the top four as well.
Form is going to be important in the coming weeks, so we though we’d take a look at who is and who isn’t in form heading into round 15.
Last Five Results
1st) Brothers: 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 bye
Brothers were challenged by UQ and Souths in recent weeks but are still the form team of the competition and favourites at this stage to win back-to-back premierships.
2nd) UQ: 4 wins , 1 draw
Have drawn with Brothers and beaten Norths, Jeeps and Easts in recent weeks. The Red Heavies have found their groove but face a tough test against Souths this weekend ahead of a bye in round 16.
3rd) Souths: 3 wins, 1 loss, 1 bye
Souths have come back to the pack a little over the last month or so after a brilliant first half of the regular season. The Magpies challenged Brothers but only just snuck past Jeeps and Easts. Saturday’s clash against UQ, after a bye in round 14, should give us a good indication of where Souths are at.
4th) Wests: 3 wins, 1 loss, 1 bye
After getting blown off the park in the first half against UQ, Wests have recovered in recent weeks and won their last three matches. They face GPS and Brothers and Souths in the next four weeks though and could finish anywhere from second to sixth.
5th) GPS: 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw
After losses to Souths and UQ, Jeeps scored a late try to salvage a draw against Bond at home last week. Ahead of a bye in round 17 and a final round clash against Brothers, Saturday’s match against Wests is super important for GPS.
6th) Bond: 1 win, 2 losses, 1 draw, 1 bye
A loss to Norths and a draw with GPS has put a big dent in Bond’s finals ambitions with the Bull Sharks effectively playing knockout rugby from this weekend onwards. First up, they face Brothers on the Gold Coast.
7th) Sunnybank: 5 losses
Sunnybank have been really disappointing in recent weeks after a decent first half of the regular season and will drop further down the ladder if they lose to Easts this weekend.
8th) Easts: 4 losses, 1 bye
While the numbers don’t look pretty, Easts were in the mix against GPS and gave Souths a scare. They’ll want to beat Sunnybank and Norths in the coming weeks to give the Tigers something to build on next season.
9th) Norths: 2 wins, 3 losses
Things are coming together up north. Dan Ritchie’s side beat Sunnybank and Bond and scored a few late tries to give UQ a scare last month. While they won’t feature in the finals this year, something is building at The Nest.
