Hospital Cup: Final round hypotheticals
The top four teams set to battle for this year's Hospital Cup are locked in, with Brothers, Wests, UQ and Souths all chasing a spot in the grand final - to be played at Ballymore on Sunday September 1.
Despite that, there's still plenty to play for in this weekend's final round with three teams in contention to face Brothers in the major semi final. Here's what to look for this weekend.
1st) Brothers: 63pts, 11 wins, +190
Despite drawing with Norths last week, Brothers have locked up the minor premiership and will play for a spot in the grand final in a major semi final at Yoku Road at 3pm on Saturday August 17.
If Brothers were playing anyone else this weekend, they'd probably rest half their side. But that's not really an option when you face rivals GPS on Back to Brothers Day at Crosby Park.
2nd) Wests: 57pts, 11 wins, +122
Wests control their own destiny. While they can't leapfrog Brothers to steal the minor premiership, the Bulldogs can book a major semi final berth if they beat Souths at Chipsy Wood Oval this weekend.
If they lose, they'll play either UQ or Souths in the minor semi final at Sunnybank on Sunday August 18.
If they draw, Wests will most likely need UQ to lose to Bond to remain in second spot, depending on how bonus points fall for both sides.
3rd) UQ: 56pts, 10 wins, +121
UQ host Bond in round 18 and can jump into second spot if they win and Wests lose to Souths. As Wests have one additional win on their record compared to UQ, Wests will remain in second spot if the two sides finish on equal competition points.
If UQ lose and Souths win, the Students will face Wests at Sunnybank next Sunday.
4th) Souths: 55pts, 10 wins, + 108
Souths could finish anywhere from second to fourth based on this weekend's results. If they lose to Wests, they'll face UQ at Sunnybank next weekend.
If they beat Wests and UQ beat Bond, Souths will face Wests at Sunnybank next weekend.
If they beat Bond and UQ lose to Bond, Souths will jump into second spot and face Brothers for a spot in the grand final next Saturday at GPS.
The Spoilers:
GPS (5th) can't impact Brothers road to the decider, but they'll want to knock their rivals around a bit and return to Yoku Road with the points.
Bond (6th) could end UQ's hopes of a top two finish and a major semi final berth with a win on Saturday.
While Easts (7th) and Norths (8th) will play off for seventh spot in their final match of the season.
