NSW GPS v CAS 1st & 2nd XV: Top performers
GPS claimed bragging rights over their CAS rivals, winning both fixtures on a wet night at Knox on Tuesday.
A number of players caught the eye, though it must be said that the open, free flowing nature of the 2nd XV fixture made it a lot easier for individuals to impress in comparison to the later match.
Tolu Koula – GPS I & Newington
Koula was absolutely brilliant and far and away the most impressive on the night. On a cold, wet evening, the crowd rose every time he went near the ball.
Nick Chan – GPS I & Joeys
Didn’t get a lot of opportunity in attack but hit like a train in defence and showed plenty of class in his third season playing GPS.
Hamish Moore – GPS I & Scots
Scored a good individual try early and threw well to back of the lineout in the first half to keep pressure on CAS.
Jacob Ratcliff – GPS I & Newington
The GPS No.7 was involved in everything and looked very strong over the ball. Caused a number of turnovers and slowed down the CAS ball all evening.
Tom Gratwicke – CAS I & Knox
On a tough night for CAS, Gratwicke bent the GPS defensive line all night and kept working all match.
Thomas Maka – GPS II & Newington
The Newington hooker made metres every time he touched the ball and kept GPS II on the front foot.
CAS II Scrum
Led by props Malachi Hawkes (Trinity) and Dane Wilson (Barker), the CAS II scrum dominated all match. When three CAS II players were added to the CAS I scrum late in the game, the CAS I scrum dominated as well.
Kaeo Weekes GPS II & Newington
The electric outside back looked dangerous every time he touched the ball and created headaches for the CAS defence all match.
