GPS selectors name strong sides for NSW rep trials
GPS selectors have named a relatively young first XV representative side to face ISA and CAS later this week.
Six underage players, or 17-year olds, have been selected in the initial first XV squad.
Kings’ prop Hayden Lavercombe, Joeys hooker Charles Ghattas and backrower Justice Taumoepeau, Riverview backs Angus Grover and Tom Hartman and Shore flyhalf Rex Bassingthwaighte were all selected after graduating from last year’s under 16s rep program.
Shore flanker Marshall Le Maitre will captain the side and beat out in-form Joeys flanker Johannes Logan for the first XV No.7 jersey.
Le Maitre’s teammate and flyhalf Rex Bassingthwaighte also got the nod ahead of Joeys’ playmaker Jonte Fowler.
Joeys lead the competition after six rounds and had four players selected in the first XV team. Shore, Riverview and Newington have three representatives, while Kings and Scots have one each.
Joeys also have four players in the GPS II side, while Shore and Newington have three, Riverview and Scots have two and Kings have one.
