One of Queensland’s top schoolboy talents Carter Gordon has transitioned comfortably into Premier Grade Rugby.
The 18-year old continues to perform at the high level that earnt him Australian Schoolboy honours in both 2017 and 2018.
In November of last year, Gordon was rewarded for strong GPS and Australian Schoolboy form with a Reds Developing Contract.
He accredited his pre-season with the Reds for his strong Premier Grade form so far. The experience “definitely helped” with the transition into Senior Rugby.
“My transition from GPS Rugby to Prem Grade Rugby was definitely helped by the preseason I had with the Queensland Reds,” he said.
“Training with those guys really set the tone for my expectations leading into the club season.”
While a pre-season with the Reds would be a tough experience for anyone, Carter saw his senior year at BBC as the more challenging period in his young career.
A tendency to blame himself for things that “were out of my [his] control” began to take a “big toll” on how he approached the game.
But Gordon appreciates the opportunities that the College presented him with nonetheless.
“Moving to BBC really helped my development on and off the field.
“I feel like it really helped my rugby a lot in the four years I was there.
“I always had access to balls, fields and posts and that alone gave me everything I needed to try and improve my game.”
The Bulldogs’ team culture has made it easier for Gordon to transition from schoolboy Rugby.
The supportive environment at Sylvan Road allowed him to just play his game.
“The Wests’ boys have been really welcoming, more so than what I was expecting.
“They seem to be pretty happy having me there and I’m also very happy to be there.”
The teenager has helped guide Wests to third on the ladder.
To continue this strong start to the season Gordon wants to focus on the “little things” that will help him improve.
Wests have a bye this weekend but will return to action next weekend at home against Norths.
