Brothers’ demolition job has them primed for back half of the season

A ruthless display fresh off the bye against Sunnybank has Brothers primed for a big run home in 2023.
Battering the Dragons 64-12, the filth were unremitting in their Crosby Park outing, much to the delight of coach Brendan Gabbett.
“Very happy with the Sunnybank result especially after the bye,” Gabbett told Rugby News.
Saturday’s result allayed any fears of sluggishness or complacency after a week off.
The first side to have completed both bye rounds, Brothers are now nipping at the heels of the top four.
Resurrecting that aspiration on the weekend stemmed from three narrow losses to GPS, Wests and UQ in their four games prior to the bye.
Small margins and errors in defence decided those contests, something that the filth made a point of addressing against Sunnybank.
Only conceding one try for the whole game, in addition to a penalty try, was the most pleasing aspect of a victory during which 10 tries were scored.
“The structure and shape that we played with was what we worked on during the week, so delighted that the boys stuck to it right to the end,” Gabbett said.
Attention now turns toward the home stretch for the boys from Crosby Park.
Last season’s preliminary finalists have a host of new faces, but still maintain the same goal of reaching the final day in August.
Bond, Norths, UQ and GPS comprise the next month of fixtures for the Brethren.
Fresh off a clinical display, Brothers will aim to storm home for a finals birth as we reach the pointy end of the competition.
“Heading into the second round of the season we would have liked to have won a couple of close games but we are comfortable with where we are placed at the moment.”
