Barker, Waverley and Knox dominate CAS rep teams for NSW Schools trials

After winning both of their opening competition fixtures so far this season, players from Barker, Waverly and Knox have dominated selection in the CAS representative sides set to play at the NSW Schools trials later this week.

Barker have six players in the CAS I side led by returning flyhalf Harrison Dene and fullback Charlie Poynton who both impressed as year 11s last year. Prop Nick Hill also earned promotion from CAS II last year to CAS I this season.

Waverley have five players picked, with flanker Oli Aboud retaining his first XV No.7 jersey from 2023.

Knox have three players selected, including returning winger Max Roach, while Trinity hooker Max Meagher is his school’s sole representative in the CAS I side.

Knox have seven players selected in the CAS II side led by flyhalf Tye Jecks who returns from last season.

Barker and Aloys have four players each, Waverley and Trinity have three each and Cranbrook have two players selected in the 23-man CAS II side.

CAS I will play CHS I on Thursday morning at 11:10am at Hunters Hill (games moved due to ground closures) and GPS I at Knox at 7pm on Friday night.

CAS II will play Sydney Juniors at Joeys at 10:20am on Thursday and GPS II at Knox at 5:45pm on Friday.

With school holiday dates in NSW and QLD not syncing up this year, a preliminary Australian U18s squad was selected from U18 Academy matches played in February.

That squad will spend a week training in Sydney during the July School Holidays.

Players not selected in that squad will be eligible for selection in NSW I, NSW II and NSW Juniors teams to play at the Australian Schools Championships on the Sunshine Coast from July 2-5.

An Australian Schools Barbarians side will be selected from that tournament while in-form players will also be added to the Australian U18s squad based on form in school, club and representative matches.
