Barker fall short against Iggies as CAS rivals shine ahead of round one
Barker have suffered their first defeat of their 2021 campaign, falling just short against a talented Riverview side.
Elsewhere, the remaining five CAS sides all recorded victories in their final trial matches ahead of the opening round of the CAS competition next weekend.
Dean Hargreaves side were kept try less in the first half and trailed at the break 12-3, but crossed for two five pointers in the second half in the 24-18 defeat.
At Oakhill, Waverley scored four tries to claim a 27-12 victory and record their fifth straight trial victory with AJ Preketes, Ethan King, Kayton Thorn and Jonti Morshead-Feildel all crossing the chalk.
At Wahroonga, Knox claimed their second away win over a GPS rival in as many weeks, defeating Newington 30-22 just a week after knocking off Riverview.
At Trinity, Australian Sprint champion Theo Kidd continue his impressive start to the 2021 season, scoring three tries in his side’s 20-14 victory over Shore.
Cranbrook continued their strong preseason form, scoring five tries to beat St Pat’s 33-10.
Perhaps more pleasing for coach Brad Gill is the fact Cranbrook conceded just 10 points. The Rose Bay side has had no problems scoring points this year, but have leaked a few too many according to the coach.
Aloys also showed they have plenty of points in them with a 40-33 victory over St Greg’s.
The trial results add further intrigue to a bumper opening weekend of CAS action. Waverley host Knox in the feature match of the weekend, while Barker play Cranbrook and Trinity take on Aloys.
